Selva di Gardena also means tradition and culture. In this valley infact, it is possibile to still find and see evidences from a history that shows 2.000 years, back to the days when this valley belonged to a territory, now non-existent, called Ladinia.
The conservation of costumes, uses, culture and the ladin language, it represents the main keyes of this population. In Val Gardena there is also one of the main event for the international music, the Valgardena MUSIKA”. The most prestigious orchestras in July and August will play classical music.
The chuch “S. Maria ad Nives” and the chapel “S. Silvestro” deserve to be seen and visitated. On the wall face of the “Sartëur” house in Selva Gardena is fixed a musical box with a clock made by nine bells, which gladden the atmosphere in the air, ringing twice a day with two different melodies. Four middleagers made by wood are included in this musical box and they would represent the observers of the time.
This valley is also famous for its sculptures. They are famous all over the world, both holy and desecrate. Made since the XVII century, as a way to spend the time during the long winter season, they belong to a long tradition. Until a hundred years ago, Val Gardena was still an isolated and hard to reach valley, that forced its inhabitat to enjoy themselves with the wood. The objects that were made during the winter, they were sold and exported to all over the world. It is still possible to admire many of the best sculpures in Val Gardena Museum.

Ski in Selva Gardena
In the winter Selva Gardena represents the best ski centre in Gardena Valley and in Alto Adige. Thanks to the many ski lift systems, modern and fast, the ski areas in this valley are all connected to each other.

Selva di Gardena is located at the base of the mountain Sella, in the heart of the ski district “Sella Ronda”, which passes right in the middle of the town centre, between houses and hotels. The town divides the ski district in two parts: on one side exciting slopes below the ski lift Dantercepies, which reaches the Gardena Pass, whereas on the other side there are the slopes which go down from the Ciampinoi and Passo Sella.
The amazing peaks of Sassolungo, Sciliar, Cir and Sella make the landscape and the ski slopes even more amazing.
The ski slpes leave right from the Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva and they almost reach many peaks, thanks to the many ski lift systems, built in the last few years. From Val Gardena you can also reach the 4 valleys of Gruppo del Sella (Alta Badia, Arabba, Marmolada, Val di Fassa), which connected to each other, create 500km of ski slopes.
Every year in the middle of december two World Cup races are organized. With the Skitour you can try the emotion of being a champion by doing their same slopes, such as Saslong, Cir, Tre, Seceda and mont Seura, which have become famous.
Val Gardena also offers many other ski tours: Sella Ronda, Forcella del Pordoi, Marmolada, the Alpine skiing tour of Sassolongo and Roa.
For those who love cross-country ski, Vallunga in Selva Gardena offers an amazing dolomitic landscape with 12km of slopeps.
Modern structures allow visitors to practice all the other winter sports such as snowboard, ice skating, skid, snow-shoeing, Alpine skiing, hiking on ice fall.

Selva di Gardena offers many traditional trails, Nordic Walking paths and excusions with guides in the Natural Park of Puez-Odle, that with its 10.200 hectares, 2500 m above sea level, it is characterized by its beauty and abundance of nature.
There are many walks starting in Selva Gardena, such as Naturonda, a wonderful equipped walk, or the Belvedere, a new panoramic path.
